Board of Directors Spotlight Series: J. Robert MacQueen

19/01/2023

The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) is governed by an independent Board of Directors, which is comprised of provincial and federal appointees and a Board Chair. The Board sets the CNSOPB’s policies and programs through strategic, ethical and transparent lenses in the stewardship and regulation of offshore petroleum resources.

In addition to their valued contributions to our Board, our Board of Directors are active members in their communities and dedicate their time, resources and expertise to numerous organizations.

The CNSOPB welcomed Robert MacQueen as a Director in April, 2022. Rob is a provincially-appointed alternate Board Member and brings over 30 years of offshore experience to the Board.

After completing his Bachelor of Commerce at Mount Allison University and Master of Business Administration at Saint Mary’s University, Rob spent most of his career in senior leadership roles in the energy industry, most recently with Ovintiv (formerly Encana).  As former Project Director and Asset Manager for the Deep Panuke Offshore Gas Development Project, he is very familiar with the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore area.  Being directly involved in regulatory hearings and several activity applications, he has a full understanding of the regulatory practices and legislative requirements included throughout the entire life cycle of a project and involving every aspect of exploration, development and decommissioning.

Rob uses his educational background in the area of finance and economics with his involvement on other boards and with community volunteer programs.  In addition to his role as a Director with the CNSOPB, he currently serves on the Alumni Board of Mount Allison University, as Secretary Treasurer and Director at Oakfield Golf and Country Club, and as a member of the Halifax Regional Municipality Investment Policy Advisory Committee.

“It is a privilege to work with the Board and staff of the CNSOPB.   Their professionalism and commitment to safety and environmental protection through competent regulation is outstanding.  I am looking forward to being part of the Board at this exciting time with the expansion of its mandate to include the regulation of renewable energy development in the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore areas.”

Rob resides in the Halifax Regional Municipality and participates in recreational activities including hockey and golf.  In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar and spending time with his family at their cottage located on the Northumberland Shore of Nova Scotia.

We thank Rob for his contribution to our Board. For more information on Rob, read his Board biography.
