Update #4: Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board’s Response to COVID-19

01/05/2020

Enhanced Protective Health Measures

On April 29, 2020, our Chief Safety Officer (CSO) amended a clause to the March 25, 2020 Order Respecting Essential Employees. This amendment ensures that we are informed of all the measures in place prior to transporting offshore workers on vessels or aircraft, and the acceptance of COVID-19 management plans by the CSO.

As we learn more about COVID-19, we continue to see more changes and recommendations from governments to protect offshore workers and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

For information about these latest measures, please refer to these resources:

Operators and their key contractors have implemented significant COVID-19 control measures to reduce the possibility of someone travelling offshore with COVID-19 and also to minimize any risk of transmission in offshore workplaces (e.g. enhanced cleaning, modifications to seating arrangements during meal times, provision of masks for use etc.). For more information on the protective measures being taken to minimize the risk of COVID-19, please refer to our April 1, 2020 Update #3.

Business Continuity

We have been working from home since March 16, 2020.  We are fully operational and remain committed to fulfilling our mandate.

We are conducting our oversight of offshore oil and gas operations. Where possible and appropriate, we are making use of remote technology with videoconferencing, teleconferences, and other electronic means.

We are in daily contact with operators to discuss the implementation of COVID-19 protective measures throughout their operations.

Communication with Stakeholders

We are in daily contact with contact with operators, the federal and provincial governments, our colleagues at the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, and other offshore regulators around the world.

We continue to post our updates on our website and Twitter.

If you have specific questions about an operator, their operations, or their health and safety measures, please see the operators’ contact information below.
