The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) and the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) have undertaken a joint review of the Drilling and Production Guidelines (the Guidelines). The Guidelines were effective March 31st, 2011.
This review incorporates lessons learned from investigations into major offshore blowouts that occurred in the US Gulf of Mexico in 2010 and in Australia in 2009, as well as the results of a review by the North Sea Regulators on drilling practices. In addition, the Guidelines took into consideration Special Oversight Measures implemented for deep-water operations and initiatives that were implemented in other jurisdictions.
The two Boards are currently seeking comments on the revisions to the Drilling and Production Guidelines. These updates are highlighted throughout the document. Comments on items outside of the highlighted updates will be noted for other reviews. Comments may be submitted to the address below or emailed to info@cnsopb.ns.ca until April 10, 2017. Upon receipt, all submissions will be shared between the two Boards.
